Foreword by Alexander Downer, the Australian
Minister for Foreign Affairs
I
welcome the publication of this directory as a valuable reference for Australian
business involvement in Indonesia. Business links are an important
element in maintaining a positive and mutually beneficial relationship
between our two countries. The Australia-Indonesia Development
Area (AIDA) is a joint government initiative to develop closer
economic relations between Australia and Indonesia’s eastern provinces
and districts. A central aim of AIDA is to improve the enabling environment
for private sector trade and investment.
The AIDA
Business Directory is designed to make it easier for Australian
firms to identify potential trade and investment partners in eastern Indonesia.
It will assist
the matching of Australian and Indonesian small and medium-sized business
partners by providing
the first level of information that decision-makers need when exploring business
opportunities.
Indonesian firms will benefit from the promotion of the directory to prospective
Australian
buyers, suppliers and business partners. Australian firms will benefit from the directory’s
assistance with the time-consuming and expensive process of searching for
potential Indonesian
business partners.
Indonesia
is undergoing a period of reform and transition, of which the decentralisation
of the
nation’s political and administrative systems is a key element. It is my hope
that Australian businesses
will play a supporting role during and beyond this period of change by taking up
business
opportunities in the provinces and districts of the AIDA region. I
commend this directory to you as a tool to increase linkages between Australian
and Indonesian
businesses in eastern Indonesia.
